Hi Aaron, thank you for reading my article and taking the time to write a response!
I’m not driving for Uber anymore, so I haven’t really kept up with the changes in promotions and quests, although I have heard that it is lower than what it used to be.
But if we assume that the demand (from passengers) is still there, than I would hope that a driver can still make at least $500 over the weekend. I took a look at my screenshot earnings in my article and saw that I was making roughly $500 in trip earnings before any promos were added (unless Uber decreased the base rate for drivers, well that’s a different story then).
So I know you said the following “ For example, I drove 58 trips last weekend and they did not honor the quest due to trips in Orange County…” Unfortunately, it has always been like this. When you do trips for an LA promo, they only count if the trip starts in LA. You can end the trip anywhere…OC, Nevada, Florida, doesn’t matter, as long as the trip starts in LA, it counts towards the promo. But, if the trip starts in OC, than sadly, it doesn’t count at all towards the promo.
I remember when I was driving for Uber, I had to deal with this many times. If a passenger had to go from LA to OC, I would take them there, but I would then go offline and haul my ass back to LA. After I was about 5–10 miles north of the LA County line, I would go back online. It’s always a gamble because you don’t know whether or not a passenger needs to go to OC, but 90% of the time, LA folks tend to stay in LA.
Hope this helps a bit, and good luck with the job hunting!
